Director of the Section of Heath Disparities and International Health, Division of General Internal Medicine, University of Pittsburgh

Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking Director of the Section of Health Disparities and International Health. The Director will be provided with resources including an Endowed Chair in health disparities research. Candidates must hold a distinguished record in the field of health disparities research. Appointment will be at the Associate or Full Professor rank in the tenure stream. The position includes a competitive salary, substantial resources to support research infrastructure, and a commitment to recruit up to ten additional MD and/or PhD junior to mid-level faculty researchers over the next five years. Opportunities for local collaboration exist through a wide range of affiliated research programs including the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion, the Institute for Clinical Research Education, and the Center for Minority Health at the University of Pittsburgh, and RAND Health.

CHERP HEALTH SERVICES RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP

The VA Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion (CHERP), supports up to four post-doctoral training positions for qualified individuals who wish to develop and enhance skills in health services research. Prior research on medical topics is not required.

CHERP has sites in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Post-doctoral trainees will join a rich environment of scholars and educators in health services research at either the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System and their affiliated academic research centers and programs such as the Center for Research on Health Care, or the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and the Philadelphia VA Medical Center and their affiliated centers and programs such as the Leonard Davis Institute and the Wharton School.

Although funding is allocated year-to-year, fellows generally remain in the program for two years. In general, fellows are provided with an annual locality-based stipend of $45,062 in the first year and $47,384 in the second year (Philadelphia locality). In Pittsburgh, annual stipends are $43,057 (first year) and $45,384 (second year). Stipends for clinical post-doctoral health services research fellows are adjusted based on clinical background (e.g., nursing or pharmacy) and locality. There are no teaching, service or payback requirements. Fellows are expected to engage in scholarly projects of their own design under the guidance of senior program faculty. Most fellows also participate in other projects already underway at Penn or Pitt and the affiliated VA Hospital.

Applicants must be US citizens and must have completed a Ph.D. in psychology, economics, management, sociology or a related field before the fellowship begins. Physicians are not eligible to apply.
